We Love the Zoo!!

We thought that by leaving for the Zoo at 9:30 we would beat most of the heat. We were wrong!! It was so hot. We got there just about the time they started the Sea Lion Keeper Chat which is always a good show. We got a good spot in the shade and watched. We even got splashed a couple times when the Sea Lion jumped (do sea lions jump?) up to reach a ball. B couldn't have cared less about the splashing but seemed to be watching the show. G on the other hand was a little concerned about getting wet. She just kept asking "what's that?".

Next, we were off to the Giraffes and Elephants. We got to see the baby elephant up close while he was eating a palm frawn. He now weighs 2,000 pounds. His dad (shown in the picture) weighs 12,000 so he has a ways to go!!

The Lions were sleeping, as usual, but I am pretty sure they actually do move around because they are never sleeping in the same spot when we go :) G was pretty interested in the water fountain, although I am not sure she knew that water came out of it.

At the children's zoo G petted and brushed the goats. "nice goats" Then we stopped under the pavilian for B to eat and the rest of us to cool down and have a little snack. G, not paying attention to what she was doing as usual, fell off the picnic table onto the cement. She kind of landed on the back of her head/neck. She didn't realy cry all that much which is surprising because it seems like if you look at her wrong these day she bursts into tears. What will we do when she is a teenager? I think the fall just scared her more than anything kind of like when she opened all the drawers on my dresser the other day and it almost landed on top of her. Come to think of it she has had some pretty close calls lately. OK back to the Zoo.

After our snack we saw the "yucky spider" tarantula and the Zebras which still seem to be one of G's favorites. However, a new favorite may be emerging. G really did like the antelope for some reason. She even went right up to 2 unsuspecting teenage girls saying "I see the antewope" very excitedly. Those girls were good sports.

On our way to the Natural Encounters building which was going to be our last stop (we picked it to be last mostly so we could cool off before our walk to the car), G says as she is wiping her forehead "I fety ... carry dad" as soon as he picked her up she said "It's hot."
Inside Natural Encounters there is a tunnell that goes through a big fish tank. G has only done it once about a year ago and I had to go with her. Yeah, its not really made for adults :) But this time she had no problem going by herself.
When she got to the end of the tunnel there was a little boy blocking her way out. She kind of looked up at T and said "Dad!?" He told her to say excuse me...she did and the little boy moved and without being promped she said "thank you". It is nice to have those moments where you feel like your kid listens to what you teach!!

Ok don't worry I didn't forget about B. He was so cute in his hat which, by the way, is size 12 months. It is a little big but not too big - he must have a really big head! He stayed awake for about half of our Zoo visit and went to sleep after he ate. He gives us such good smiles and laughs these days. He is just such a happy baby in general. He gets so excited when we give him a bath...he kicks and splashes, gets us all wet and just smiles at us.

It was kind of nice that he went to sleep so we could get him in the stroller out of the sun plus my back was starting to hurt from lugging him around. I am not going to be surprised if he weighs 20 pounds at his next dr. visit. And that was our Zoo visit. Both kids slept all the way home and we were home by 1:30. I think we will be waiting until at least October before going back.
